Aus Strom Gas machen
Bei der Produktion des Stroms aus erneuerbaren Energien gibt es noch immer viele Probleme. Dabei soll es doch genau dieser Strom sein, der Deutschland möglicherweise in ein paar Jahrzehnten komplett versorgen soll. Hierbei ergibt sich beispielsweise das Problem der Unbeständigkeit. Energie, die durch Wind oder Sonne gewonnen wird, kann nicht verlässlich jeden Tag produziert werden, da nicht immer die Sonne scheint und manchmal selbst an der Küste Flaute herrscht. An diesen Tagen kann allerdings in Deutschland nicht das gesamte Stromnetz zum Erliegen kommen und deshalb sind in Zukunft große Stromspeicher nötig, die an besonders ertragreichen Tagen die Energie sammeln und an anderen zum Gebrauch freigeben.
Derzeit ist es noch so, dass gerade zu Zeiten, wenn die Erneuerbaren zu viel Strom produzieren, dieser einfach nicht genutzt werden kann, weil die Überkapazität nicht komplett ins Netz eingespeist werden kann. Doch möglicherweise kann bald auch die Automobilindustrie von diesem Überschuss profitieren, denn durch das Konzept Power to Gas kann Strom aus erneuerbaren Energien in Gas umgewandelt werden, das zum einen solange im Erdgasnetz gespeichert werden kann, bis man es wieder als Energie nutzt, oder als Erdgas an entsprechende Tankstellen geht, wo damit Autos betankt werden können.
Der Antrieb von Autos mit Erdgas hat sich in Deutschland bislang noch nicht durchgesetzt. Experten sehen die Schuld hierfür zum einen bei einer relativ geringen Zahl an Tankstellen, die den Antriebsstoff anbieten und zum anderen bei uneinheitlichen Preisauszeichnungen. Erdgas wird nämlich nicht wie andere Treibstoffe in Litern sondern in Kilogramm angegeben, so dass die Kunden oftmals beim Vergleich der Preise Probleme haben und nicht deutlich wird, dass Erdgas um bis zu 60 Prozent billiger ist als Benzin.
